Dine About Winnipeg - Feb 2-11, 2010

Postby StBPegger on Thu Jan 07, 2010 10:03 am

Just around the corner, and a nice break in the cold weather, is Dine About Winnipeg. (check the link after Jan 8th)

I know that Resto Gare will be part of the action for $25 - curious to know who else will join the mix.

Is it that time already? I always enjoy Dine About Winnipeg - each year I've tried some new (to me) and interesting places.

BUMP

The list of participating restaurants is up at the Ciao Winnipeg website (link above). There are some tempting choices so far...

It's cool to see some of the higher-end places participating... at Sydney's and The Velvet Glove, it's easy for dinner to push $200 with tax, tip and bottle of wine. For a $35 prix fixé menu at both places, this is a good chance to get a great meal for a song!

It seems less organized than years past -- many menus aren't up yet or their prices are marked to be decided. I hope that's only on Ciao Winnipeg's end and not the restaurants'!

^ Yes, I noticed that too. This seems to bring in a fair bit of business at a traditionally quiet time of year, so you'd think it would get a pretty strong buy-in from the restaurants. However, it looks like the list of participants may have shrunk this year...

There seems to be a lot of menus and prices up now.

Has anyone made Dine About Winnipeg reservations yet?

I'm planning to check out Hermano's (which I've been to once before and quite enjoyed) and Resto Gare (which I've never been to).

I wonder if restaurants see this occasion as a boost for business? There will be six of us dining at Hermano's and four at Resto Gare, and I can tell you that we wouldn't be doing this if it weren't for Dine About Winnipeg - it's the perfect excuse to get together with friends and try something different.

I believe Dine About Winnipeg came into existence largely because of the lull that occurs after Christmas - as people paying off their debt.

I've made reservations at The Maple Tree in Selkirk. Great menu!

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to spend any extra money trying other restaurants this time.
