Graffiti Zones

Postby cherenkov on Fri Jan 29, 2010 10:33 am

Has anyone else noticed "Authorized Graffiti Areas" around town?

This one was in the exchange, on King I think:

And there is another one on the mini strip mall on Ellice & Kennedy. I have a photo of that one posted on my blog. In both cases I didn't see any graffiti, other than the city of winnipeg stencil. Just curious how prevalent these are, if they're only downtown, etc .. They both appear to be quite recent.

Haven't seen them, but I'm guessing they're not put there by the city.

That was my thought when I saw one last week.

You may be right. Thought occurred to me that it may be a practical joke. I can't find any mention of authorized graffiti on the City web site. Hmmm. Well, it wasn't me.

Was there any graffiti or just the stamp?

I really don't like graffiti.

I've seen some artistic attempts - but mostly I view it as just tagging in order to degrade neighborhoods - IMHO.

I see it at the Forks all the time. Get over it and stop wasting my time to clean it up.

/thank you.

I like the old kind of graffiti from the '70s and '80s, words you could actually read. Like how such-and-such rules, or such-and-such sucks. Now it's all gang tags that no one can read and no one cares about except the gangs. Makes me want to grab a can of spray paint and go out and do some proper graffiti. If you ever see graffiti in Osborne Village that reads "Streetheart rules" or something, that'll be me.
