Park(ing) Day

Postby Vote for Pedro on Fri Sep 19, 2008 2:27 pm

Apparently today is Park(ing) Day, where people take over parking stalls and tun them into public parks for the day. I went by this one this morning on King Street, and here it is on the Free Press website. An interesting idea - they pay for the meter and bring in all the stuff to park-ify it.

That is wonderfully clever. This is the first I've heard of it...neat!

good thing I didn't have to park in the Exhange today... with the construction going on around the corner, it would have been futile.

Looks cosy tho! :D

Hmmmmmmm I was out and about in the Exchange today and missed that totally! I did go for lunch today at Goldie's Fries in Old Market Square, the owner told me with all the road construction and square renovations going on hes had a terrible summer with his chip truck. Normally hes right near the sidewalk on the west side of the square, now they've got him pushed way out behind the stage near the Royal Bank Tower.

Despite all those FOR it...I'll be the one to protest it.

What kind of idiot came up with this garbage?

They are lucky I didn't need to park in that area that day...I would've backed in right over all that garbage.

Streets are for vehicles, not morons in plastic chairs. Just because you've fed the meter does not give you the right to put your garbage on the street.

They SHOULD have been arrested for loitering, and for obstructing traffic, and for causing a public nuisance...not praised for their stupidity.

You pay the money, you lease the space.

Let the Winnipeg Parking Authority tell us exactly which law says you can't do what you want with the parking spot once you've paid for it!

THE CITY OF WINNIPEG
WINNIPEG PARKING METER BY-LAW
NO. 6547/95
A By-law of THE CITY OF WINNIPEG
concerning the reservation of certain portions
of streets and public parking facilities and
public parking sites for the purpose of parking
vehicles
and the use of parking meters in
connection therewith.

hmmmm... seems pretty clear to me... unless I am missing something
