I thought I would point this out. I don't believe that the media gave it much play. A story I must have missed on the newscast yesterday, if it was even on. The fact that a student got charged today got a two sentence mention on tonight's newscast.
If this would have happended within a 100 km of where I live it would have been top news for a week, intermixed with stories about the inner city going to hell in a handbasket. It happened to be in a bedroom community so all is well and it got minimal attention.
Oakbank students shot by pellet gun Tuesday, February 27, 2007 CBC News A student has been suspended from a junior-high school in the small town of Oakbank after other students were shot with a pellet gun. The incident happened Friday morning, before classes began at Springfield Middle School in Oakbank, just east of Winnipeg. Duane Brothers, superintendent of the Sunrise School Division, told CBC that students were gathered in a multi-purpose room in the school when two plastic pellets were fired from an air gun. One student was hit in the arm, the other in the face, near an eye. Neither student was seriously injured.
Sounds like they were shot with an Airsoft gun. Geeks shoot each other with them for fun on the weekends all of the time. Barring getting hit directly in the eye or from extrememly close range there isnt much chance of sustaining any serious injury from them.
That being said... I am not condoning the actions of the shooter.
That's true, and maybe the media gave it the attention it actually deserved by not making a big deal about it. My original point was that if it had been in an inner city school it would have been a much bigger deal.

Perhaps it was a slow news day. Remember it's all about filler.
The reference to the inner city, are you suggesting the media has a bias for crime in the inner city? The CBC?
The teacher was trying to get their attention! Those rural students just cannot seam to pay attention! My brother-in-law teaches shops there, and he has the same problem with his students falling asleep.
