How could the government possibly enforce efficiency upgrades to private dwellings? How would they know what houses to 'enforce' unless they inspected every house in Canada?
If an owner has an inefficient house, it is in their best interests to make it more efficient and thereby save money. That should be sufficient incentive IMO.
There are numerous laws on the books that the government can not enforce, does not stop them from making them laws. As to how could they enforce? Thermal imaging would be sufficient cause for a more detailed examination.
They use thermal imaging right now as a way of launching more detailed "examination" for other crimes, so it stands to reason they would continue it for other items which can be detected via a thermal scan.
It would not be the upgrade they would be enforcing it would be the result of the upgrade.
note how Canada allows it... yet the US does not... me I would have thought it would be the other way around... but.. there ya go.. and it is used quite frequently in winnipeg from what I understand.
I did not say it was a good plan. I am just saying it is happening now for one crime... so how long before it is used for more then one?
... but hey wait a minute....If increased insulation and the like can stop them from actually using thermal imaging... how long before they create a law stopping you from upgrading your house to prevent them from spying on you! .. heheh
There is a lot of good things happening regarding upgrading houses etc. I heard on the radio today, a group is giving away the more efficient fluorescent light bulbs, that reduce electric consumption by 70%. They have done this in some cities in Ontario, and they are coming to Wpg soon. They get the lights donated by companies and then they get volunteers to knock on doors. I put in about 8 of those bulbs, where the light did not matter! I removed them from the reading lamps, as the light bothered my wife's eyes. 8 out of 30, and that is the best I could manage. All the province's as well as the feds seem to be promoting more efficient homes, via insulation, better windows, more efficient furnaces,- All great programs for the consumer.
