I am asking for advice....what is best to kill Mosquitoes ? I live in the country and I have to do something...... do the propane Mosquitoe traps work ? Are they worth the money ? Will zappers help, or should I just put coils everywhere ?

I find those Off lamp deals work well enough for the immediate vicinity.
  2.
I think large scale larvaciding works. Ask Randy G. the former City entomologist. Why they fired him I'll never understand.

Praying Mantis also kill a lot of mosquitos, do they not? Costco online sells them. Yes, they sell Praying Mantii. (whateverthe plural form is, too lazy to look it up)
  4.
Hand slapping kills them for sure, but it could take some time if you have a large property.
  5.
Hand slapping method is the cheapest, and the bloodiest for sure......

I just took care of the problem tonight......lined my entire back yard with those citrenella lamps , 15 in total, and lit em up. The yard looks like the show survivor now . Then I bought one of them propane traps, and I also lit a few coils on the deck. Then I walked around with no shirt and shorts with no repellant , and not one mosquito. Spent a few hundred, mostly on the trap which was $346 with the new tank, but well worth it to enjoy my yard again.
Someone also emailed me and told me to put dish soap in the places where there is standing water, like the low spot ( more like a lake ) in my neighbors yard , and the stuff in my ditch that never seems to drain. He says its kills the buggers because they get oily soap on their wings and can't fly.

An hour before I did all this, I was getting eaten alive , now there is no mosquitoes , well worth the money spent.

heh... sounds like a good idea for a business.. charge like at extra 5-10% on top of the supplies and analyze someone's yard and set it all up for them.

Years ago, I bought some Coleman fuel which was spiked with citronella. Worked great in the lantern, you could smell the lemon just a touch. Not a good idea to use it in the stove for cooking. Not sure if they still sell it.

A co-worker told me that spraying mouthwash around you will keep the skeeters away. I told him he should try his mouth first before wasting it all.

I used the regular Listerine / water thingy and it works (along with Deep Woods Off).

I can understand the Listerine, but doesn't the Deep Woods Off leave a bad taste in your mouth??

Also put up some purple martin houses - they eat mozzies too.

I tried the Listerine solution when camping this past weekend and it seemed to work well enough. Will have to test again in the backyard when there's a lot of mozzies.

It's fairly tough in the country to really get rid of them. Larvacide in standing water, and dragonflies are a good start. Bats are good as well if you're out at night. If enough mosquitos are in the area there really isn't too much you can do. Best bet is to hit them at their breeding sites.

Am I the only one who remembers Winnipeg's summer of no Mosquitoes? That Randy G. dude had it down to a science. He larvacided an area of like up to a 50 mile radius outside of Winnipeg.

The Province should pay for that. Half of Manitoba lives in Winnipeg. The argument that the Province should pay for that is reasonable.

You can't change Winnipeg's winters but you can change the mossies in the summer. It would have a positive effect on the city's image issue.
