There's too much money in the thugging club scene in Winnipeg. Everywhere eventually converts to that type of place.
I remember when I first started seeing bouncers and cover charges at finn's. Blew me away.
I like quiet (by comparison) pubs where you can order some great potato skins and just relax in some low lighting or work on something. Spend time with friends or the wife... Even as somebody who doesn't drink at all, Winnipeg could definitely do with more pubs. They're a lot more balanced.
The LO Pub is in what used to be the Gordon Downtowner, on Ellice right behind Portage Place. It's part of the new Hostelling International (HI) hostel.<p>
I was just there last night! I didn't catch th name of the pub, thanks zander! They were closed (Sunday night) but I want to check it out sometime. How about a pub meet everyone?
CommentAuthorSputnik CommentTime6 hours ago ThanksReport Postquote I don't mind fire pits (open pits are legal in Calgary). It's the people that use them to burn scrap lumber they call "firewood" in them that I detest.
Also the people that seem to forget that there are noise by-laws while sitting around their backyard bonfire listening to bad music and talking louder and louder the drunker they get. Thankful People: conceitedjerk, Omega
I just wanted to clarify that people get hard of hearing while they drink which forces others to talk louder.
I can't imagine it's the booze that makes one hard of hearing. I think it's the too damn loud music usually played in certain drinking establisments, and sometimes residences.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 178 Monte Cassino, in a strip mall at 1111 Logan Ave., could be closed at any time because it owes more than $21,000 in property and school taxes. A letter from the property manager warned the legion branch it had 60 days starting April 2 to pay the arrears.
John Petrinka, a legion member and tax consultant, said the branch got into trouble when it sold its former 605 Notre Dame Ave., building and moved into rental premises.
Petrinka said as long as the branch owned its building, provincial legislation granted it an exemption from all property taxes.
But until the province passed an amendment to take effect next year, Petrinka said they have been billed property taxes to the tune of more than $4,000 in 2006 and more than $17,000 last year.
