The other thread about the Neo-Nazi`s got me to thinking about this. What do you think constitutes neglect or abuse.
  2.
Does allowing your under age child to have sex and end up pregnant constitute neglect.... I say YES!
Does Allowing your under age child to drink constitute neglect.....again a YES
  3.
What are you going to do to stop your underage kid from having sex?
  4.
"allowing" is the key word....condoning it, giving your blessing to it, telling your friends that your daughter is banging a 20 year old.
  5.
But there are laws against child exploitation. A 20-year-old can't legally have sex with a child. A parent who condones it should be arrested for abuse/neglect.

You can't stop it but you can educate your children about birth control and how it is extremely important to practice safe sex.

Drinking or doing drugs while pregnant - abuse. A mother should be charged.

Sure. But if your kid gets pregnant or fathers a child, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it.
  7.
Well no. But maybe a little parental guidance and council will prevent the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th... child. I guess what many are saying is let's provide a little parental guidance before making the mistake of bringing a child into the world.

Of course there isn't much you can do about it but educating your children goes a long way. In this day and age there is no excuse....except of course if the pregnancy is because of rape. Condoms and the pill were free when I was in high school I'm sure they still are. No excuse for an unwanted/unplanned pregnancy.

It's not much different than grandparents who help their selfish adult offspring raise their kids while they enjoy adult-only vacations and lifestyle. People who spoil their kids by assuming their responsibilities aren't doing their grandchildren any favours.

And there's especially no excuse for multiple pregnancies where the mother is unable to raise their child properly.

The key word there is " unwanted". Most teenage pregnancies carried to term are wanted. That's the tragedy.

So if my husband and I take a vacation without our children then we are selfish? You don't have children do you? My parents took vacations with us and without us....my grandparents looked after us while my parents were away and there was nothing wrong with that. Parents need time away once in a while....

Unplanned was also a key word.

Tragic indeed. But many (most?) of these teen pregnancies occur because the kids think that their life will improve. Some due to carelessness. Others beacuse they get a raise in welfare payments. Again, let's council these children so it happens less frequently.

I'm sure you were well raised Goth, but there are plenty of parents who give birth and leave it to grannie and grandpa to raise the family. This is a perfectly acceptable cultural thing, but sometimes it is purely selfish. Children being raised by nannies are often no better off.

Wasn't one of the other reasons because they were looking for "unconditional love"?

Sorry, but you have about 8 months or so (giving 1 months leniency) to think about what you're going to do with the baby. If the mother or her family can't raise the child (without gov't assistance), then abortion or adoption are always options.

There are so many people out there who would give anything to adopt a baby. Adoption is always an option. A girlfriend of mine gave up her child for adoption....she was already a single Mom and couldn't afford to take care of another child.....her boyfriend agreed with her and they gave up the baby. She is still in contact with the adoptive parents.....they send her photos and updates. She was 27 at the time and had her tubes done after giving birth. Mistakes happen but at least she knew enough to give up that child cause there was no way she could afford another kid.

CFS usually will remove a child at birth if the mother/father has a history of abusing their children. But I don't think CFS does anything if the pregnant mother is abusing alcohol and drugs or engaging in any other kind of behaviour that is likely to endanger the unborn child.
