I know I can get some boxes from Safeway or whatever, but I need some pretty large sturdy ones.

Also bubble wrap. Anyone know where to buy lots of bubble wrap?

I know UHaul sells this stuff, but their locations are all in weird places.

    anywhere else?

Talk to the folks at Starbucks.

Their boxes are super heavy (for carrying coffee beans) and they usually hold onto them for people who ask. My wife worked there when she was in school and would always put boxes aside for people that asked.

Check with Pack and Post on Corydon, or one of the UPS stores. You might have to pay a bit more for it, but they have good stuff.<p>

If you're looking for a box to fit a painting, try an art gallery. You never know.

I just moved and went with UHaul boxes my sister bought for her move. The great range of sizes etc. made the move so much better than 1000 little LC boxes. I highly recommend them but know they are in odd locations to get to. I don't know of other shops that specialize in that sort of thing.

Nice thing about UHaul is that they will buy back leftovers.

I'm on round 3 with some of my UHaul boxes. They are worth the money.

I'd hit up any stores where you see them carrying new items on a weekly basis. ( Discount stores of the larger variety ) These places end up tossing all of their excess cardboard in recycling bins that are picked up weekly. Most are more than happy to give them to you for free since it means less cardboard to toss in their recycling bins, and hence less money for them to spend for it to be picked up and hauled away by recycling/garbage companies.

U-Haul charges an arm and a leg for the boxes they sell. They do carry bubble wrap though. Might want to look at Staples/Office Depot or Grand & Toy if they are still around for the wrap.

The UPS Store sells that. Just ask me! The cityplace location is easily accessible right downtown and opens from 8 to 6. Or 955 Portage is close to downtown but with oodles of parking. There is also a location in Winnipeg Square. Tell them I sent you (look up my real name).

These were Henry Armstrong's places, right ? So are YOU the man who runs things in this town now ?! Did you off Henry ?!

I could tell ya but then I'd have to...

You could always try Shipper's Supply on Route 90. When I was running the warehouse at work, that's where I got all my stuff.

I sell and ship the odd painting and can offer a bit of advice if you're shipping a framed picture with glass. Put a piece a plywood over the glass.

Kinda' obvious eh? Oh well, just thought I'd mention this.

hehe, the glass broke a few years ago ;) so I wont have to worry.

thanks for all the advice everyone!

has anyone ever used the Greyhound buses for shipping large boxes across Canada? Seems like the best deal.

the fees on AirCanada and WestJet are ridiculous.

I use Greyhound to ship presents out at Christmas. Never had trouble with them and the price is right.

I shipped what ended up being almost 200 pounds across three large parcels from Winnipeg to Toronto for about $150 last summer.

nice, thats cheap. why do people use Canadapost for parcels if GreyHound is so cheap?
  9.
Probably a convenience thing - there being more Canada Post outlets than Greyhound drop-off centers.

Not to mentioned that with Greyhound you still have to go to the terminal to get your parcels. With Canada Post they are delivered to your door.
