A traitor to whom?

And what exactly are you basing that on?.. be specific.

Well, considering he was tried for treason, found guilty and hung, he was a traitor to the Dominion of Canada. There was a movement to have a pardon granted, but I can't find anything on that. I don't believe that he was ever convicted, or even tried for the death of Thomas Scott.

Putting that all aside, it certainly does not diminish his importance to Manitoba history. Without Riel, it is interesting to think what would have happened to Manitoba entering Confederation. Maybe, we would have been part of Saskatchewan. Now thats scary!

Anyway, as they say, vote as you please, but please vote.

How about Duff Roblin, who had the foresite to build the floodway??

Does anyone know if it was a Conservative Company that built it, or did it go to tender??

Not sure, but I bet it was a Conservative Company by the time they finished it!!

Duff Roblin is an excellent choice not only for the floodway, but for improving education in Manitoba.

And he wore the coolest hats. That in itself is good enough reason imo.

I don't think we would have been a part of SK. Alberta and SK were split up, see below.

Library and Archives Canada
One Province or Two?

Although Haultain had always demanded the creation of only one province, in the end it was decided otherwise. This decision is often explained by the fact that a single province would have been too large to administer. But, it also must be added that the idea of a single province did not appeal to most of the population of the Northwest Territories in the face of intensifying rivalries between communities for provincial capital status. Full document here.
