Now that the nice weather is upon us...where is your favorite ice cream spot? Who has the best ice cream?
  1.
Personally, I don't find much difference between the local ice cream joints.
  2.
    BDI. No contest.

    Sorry to be unoriginal.

I like BDI...my hubby doesn't. He isn't a fan of soft serve, he prefers hard ice cream.

Where do you go when you want ice cream?

Does anyone know whatever happened to Blue Boy Ice Cream?
  3.
I'll go to BDI. (Never again to the bannana joint though).

Ya. Now that you mentioned it...where is the Blue Boy??

I'm not big on ice cream, but I used to go to the Spaghetti Factory just so I could have Spumoni Ice Cream for dessert. I haven't been in a long time, I wonder if they still serve it?

You could probably find spumoni on Corydon...

Ice cream is the food of God's. I say we tax all other food stuffs so that every single citizen will receive a quart of ice cream a week for FREE.

As long as they have Maple-walnut double churned Icecream I'm a steady customer, be it Dairy Queen, BDI or SuperStore.

The company that made it went out of business. I tried googling it a while back and couldn't find any info.

Too bad. Best French Vanilla ice cream evar!

My choice is for the Banana Boat because it's relatively close and so far I haven't been disappointed. Sargent Sundae is next. They can keep BDI. I wasn't impressed.

If only we could bring back the good old days when the Finklemans owned the Dutch Maid Ice Cream store on Osborne. More off the wall ice cream sundae concoctions were served there than anyone has ever heard of in these parts. They made all their own ice cream flavors too.
Sadly, it suffered from overexpansion (branch stores) and quality control seemed to fall apart because of it.. The final blow apparently was when it was sold to someone who didn't know the first thing about ice cream. You can guess the rest.

Best french vanilla with those cherry bits ice cream! I loved that stuff as a kid.

Mind you, my other favourite flavours were rainbow and bubble gum. Bubble gum ice cream - what a horrid idea as an adult, getting hard gum to chew afterwards. But I guess that's why they make different stuff for kids!

Anyways, I'll second GOM's notion of ice cream being from the gods. My personal favourite is blizzards, so while Dairy Queen is convenient, Captain Cones in Transcona is yum. Licks south on St.Mary's is also good. I've heard Omand's creek ice cream is also good, so I plan to check it out. And for super convenience, Leo's gelati on Provencher is good. (Yeah, I like my ice cream)

    Two words - Tiger Tiger!

(Well, alright- technically that's one word that's been repeated, but you get my point...)

Sam, you mention here that the Finkelman's owned Dutch Maid......... would that by any chance be a relative of optometrist DR E.M. Finkelman from The Avenue building on Portage?

I'm not sure since so many years have passed. There was a senior Finkelman who operated the original DM location at Stradbrook and Osborne and later they moved onto Osborne between River and Stradbrook. Then they built the ice cream plant at Gertrude and Osborne, adding a store front to it. I believe the younger Finkelman took over after that move. Dr Finkelman might be related.
