I've said it before, my idea of roughing it is a motel...

Or a 5 star hotel with hot and cold running maids or setting up a pup tent on balcony of a condo

Try International Falls, Minnesota is the gateway to Voyageurs State Park and the home of stunning northern beauty. Awesome place best kept secreat in MB for camping and really getting out doors.

InTheKnow - are you Canadian? Everyone knows that people give responses in driving time. :)
(It is Europeans that will quote distance in kms)

Maybe Europeans should start doing that, StB...after all, it was on their winding roads that I learned the hard way 100 km does not always equal 1 hour of driving time!

heh and us CENTRAL Canadians tend to think nothing of a 8 hour car trip, whereas most americans think 2 hours is a long trip.

How long is it to Calgary... 13 hours.. which to most is like a 2 or sometime 3 days trip.. us.. well its an overnighter.

I did the drive in one day only once and it was terribly boring and tiring.

Nowadays I always stop in Regina over night. That way I can leave after work and get to Regina before 11pm, sleep at the Days Inn and make it to Winnipeg in the early afternoon and not feel like a sack of crap.

To do it in one day I would have to leave the following morning at 5am and drive like a madman to get to Winnipeg for around 7-8pm and feel exhausted. The $60 hotel room is money well spent IMO.

I agree. When I lived in Edmonton, I generally avoided driving between the two cities but if I had to, I typically overnighted somewhere along the highway (rural hotels are dirt cheap) for exactly the reasons Sputnik pointed out.

Driving all day is not a pleasant way to spend the day, IMO. Even on my weekend drive to the Twin Cities which is only 7 hours away, I felt very tired after reaching the destination, and still felt pretty stiff the next day.

Eleanor Lake....except we rented a cottage for a week. We haven't found a tent trailer we like for the amount we want to spend. These cottages have jacuzzi's, fireplaces, full bathroom and kitchens and they are pet friendly so we can bring our dog!
