    Mistakes can be undone.

Installing trolley wires for trolley buses is not super-expensive. Maybe cost-efficient over the long term with the price of oil and all.

Bring back the trolley bus in Winnipeg!

Posted By: Ex-Pat-Pegger How much time would a twinned span actually save? And for how long, with current development trends, would that saved time be in existance?

A couple minutes probably. Which, oddly enough, is an argument AGAINST rapid transit in this city.

It's a very good idea imho. Forget about "rapid transit" and start to think in terms of "mass transit" first I say.

Nice. Such a good point MoC.

I know, getting rid of the trolley buses seems like a step in the wrong direction.
  4.
How could they have known back then though? Probably seemed like a good idea at the time, well combined with the snake oil salesmen from the diesel bus manufacturers.

heh, kinda like us tearing down the Starland, eh?
  5.
    ...(sigh).

    Yes.

They should just ban snake oil in Manitoba, then the planning problems would be solved.

I really hate whomever signed off on that decision to tear down those buildings. I think hate is a waste of energy though and the buildings are now gone. So whomever did that...know that I hated you for a brief period of time.

I do believe that Vancouver bought all our old trolley buses. I bet they're still running for gawd sakes.

And did you notice that the city posted a job to lure you back to the city EPP? ;>

Not quite in my realm of knowledge... or desire to work within. Thanks just the same, one day perhaps. It'll have to be for a hell of a lot of money though.

    Keep me posted. :)

I didn't know the city employed real estate salespeople. Sounds like something we shouldn't be into on the face of it.

Does watching the entire series of Degrassi High count as an "equivalent combination of education and experience"?

Well at least they have lowered their standards from the top down.

Phil would have been perfect for this job.

There may not be traffic for 6 lanes now, but there may be one day. Not thinking ahead is short-sighted.
Some form of Rapid Transit may one day reach the North East corner of Winnipeg. However, cars aren't going away. Thinking you can get rid of them by increasing congestion is also short-sighted.

You can't get rid of them by increasing congestion, no, you're right. Buy why encourage more cars by adding capacity? Keep the capacity the same. People will get on the bus if it passes the congestion in its own lane. It is actually a long term strategy as this will encourage denser development as opposed to more sprawl.

Posted By: SputnikIts too bad they couldn't just rebuild the bridge to the current spec (perhaps adding an addition lane in each direction), extend the river walk to Point Douglas and then just build a pedestrian/bike bridge across the river.

That's not a bad idea. Of course, remember how enraged people STILL are about the last pedestrian bridge they built...
