Posted By: MR_Pointuse the redwood bridge instead or the liouse bridge then............

Bend over backwards and ask nicely for local politicians to do you from behind?

Nope...can't work that way or then peggers are pretty f*** up. Disraeli can take the car traffic at the moment. There wont be that much growth in car traffic that you would need more car lanes on the bridge and if there would be, then Winnipeg would be so rich that couple of hundreds of millions wouldn't matter too much. Bridge is not a bottleneck. Bottleneck is at both ends of the bridge where there's intersections and lights.

I could be money that the bridge project will be another f*** up project in this city.

What is "f*** up" about a four-lane bridge with bike lanes and a sidewalk? Where are these traffic delays that supposedly come from having four lanes instead of six or eight?

Its too bad they couldn't just rebuild the bridge to the current spec (perhaps adding an addition lane in each direction), extend the river walk to Point Douglas and then just build a pedestrian/bike bridge across the river.

I like the idea of a twin span, simply for the redundancy factor.

Me likey. That's a pretty good idea, Sputnik.

If they deep-sixed the bike and ped paths from the Disraeli in favour of an adjacent footbridge, would they be able to squeeze in an extra lane in each direction to appease the car crowd? That could be an interesting compromise, as a footbridge would be far cheaper than a three or four lane traffic bridge, not to mention considerably more appealing from a pedestrian point of view than walking alongside a busy traffic route.

What would be interesting is if they could still allow foot and bike traffic on the bridge during construction. I understand vehicles can't use the bridge because of vibrations affecting construction, etc. but why not the light traffic? I wonder how many hands that would force?

Also like the idea of setting up more park n' rides (which the city should have anyways) and express buses downtown.

Good lord, is there any topic that katz doesn't act like a complete idiot when he's opposed?

    http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/story/4173549p-4762139c.html

"I wish he had the courage to come here and make a presentation," the mayor said. "This MLA has been around for years. He's a career politician. Why he's not in cabinet, you can draw your own conclusion, but I think we have a problem with representation in (that riding)."

I know!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this....(Katz is a major douche bag). (Brackets denote thoughts kept to self).

Why is Katz starting wars with everyone?! (The Feds, the Province, Gerbasi,...he must have ran outta people to bully at city hall).

That will offend douche bags everywhere.:)

Oh and by the way...the bridge is only a bottleneck at rush hour from what I can recall. The bottleneck occurs when the parking lanes along Henderson are removed during Rush Hour. The normal 2 lanes of Henderson traffic, in the morning, becomes 3 and flows into the 2 lane (per direction) bridge. This works a little differently in the evenings, but is essentially the same issue. The bridge is the bottle neck, but only at Rush Hour.

Why spend double the money to fix a bottleneck that occurs twice a day. Isn't that a complete waste of resources, to build infrastructure for 4 hours a day?

Let people sit in traffic a little. If anything, new lane expansion plans should be for transit only lanes. Also, the added capacity, should new general traffic lanes be added, would just encourage sprawl in the north end of the city. East St. Paul in other words.

    Newsflash...sprawl is bad.

Even with that bottleneck, I've managed to make it to the UofW on a 41 Henderson Express at rush hour from Kimberly in under 15 minutes. Not bad at all.

Gotta speed up the drive to East St. Paul, dont'cha know.
  5.
They should just build an elevated freeway from East St. Paul to Downtown! (That would be so progressive).

How much time would a twinned span actually save? And for how long, with current development trends, would that saved time be in existance?

Wouldn't that also support the densification of Elmwood East Kildonan?

Nope, car traffic doesn't densify squat.

Only transit does. Well one can have automobile oriented density, but it creates horrible traffic. Transit oriented density tends to create vibrant livable cities, with fewer traffic problems. IMHO.

Tysons Corner is an example of Automobile Oriented Density.

Just malls and office parks. Separated Land Uses...sounds farmiliar.

What about high-rise condos with underground parking... more people living in are smaller space, but they don't have to give up their precious vehicles.
  8.
Hard to do without proper investment in public transit. It can be done without rapid transit though. The West End of Vancouver, the densest neighbourhood in Canada, has no rapid transit, just electric trolley bus service. By mixing uses, and creating a walkable environment, the area has been successfully densified. All the high rises have underground or structured parking.

No major automoble infrastructure expansions occured during the densification either.

Speaking of electric trolley buses...what a mistake getting rid of them was.
