Stumbled across this little NFB gem this afternoon. Can't believe I've never seen it before. Unspectacular perhaps, but still a great slice of 1973 Winnipeg life.

If you click on the Winnipeg link towards the bottom, you'll find other Winnipeg-related NFB items, including the masterpiece "Paul Tomkowicz: Street-railway Switchman."

Interesting how even in 1973 they notice that many of the shops and restaurants are disappearing from the North End.

I watched this NFB short today.

    Ted Baryluk's Grocery

Interesting viewpoint from a grocer in Point Douglas in 1982.

Apparently this short won a Genie back then too.

Yes, great find. Thanks for posting it.

They showed Ted Baryluk's Grocery at the library a couple of months back. What a cast of characters around there in the day !

See also the film The Montefiore Club by Saul Henteleff.

Good that the feel and unique aura of the north end was captured there are also many good books out there.

GOM: I think the difference between the two lists is that the first one contains Winnipeg in the content, whereas films in the second list were shot in Winnipeg. The list is no means complete, however: Lucid, Inertia and Stryker all come to mind, and there are no doubt countless more.

The link to the NFB film made the rounds about 10 days ago, I was surprised that I knew and recognized a lot of the people in it.
