So is carbon dioxide... without it our plants would die.

Posted By: smjpilotI wonder what the evironmentalists viewpoint is when it comes to hydrogen cars that emit water vapour from their tailpipes. Since it is a known fact that water vapour is the most abundant and most powerful GHG out there right now.

Nice red herring, but just think of all the carbon emissions that would be displaced - more than enough to make up the difference.

And with too much of it, we could die - along with our plants.

Plants don't need any more carbon dioxide, TYVM. The water cycle regulates the amount of water vapour in the atmosphere.

Well, Batteries it is. keep finding a better energy storage medium and both plants and humans get what they want. No emissions of any kind.

We should install wire mesh above all our streets and all cars should be 'bumper cars'.

aren't we doing that with ethanol ?

The great thing about a battery automobile, is it costs very little to re-charge! All you do, is park around the side of a Wal-Mart or Superstore, and plug in while you are shopping!
It works great- I do it all the time!

Not when its winter. Imagine how much ice would be on the streets from hydrogen cars.

Tailpipe emissions from cars is already mostly water.

I wonder what would happen generally to the power grids in large cities if we were all plugging our vehicles in? Not everyone in North America has hydro like we do and Quebec. They'd likely build more coal/oil power plants south of us to provide more electricity. We'll need a solution for that too. I guess its better to have that than all of our vehicles belching out emissions at the current rate.

Until its time to dispose of the hazardous waste from the dead batteries. : )

"keep finding a better energy storage medium "

all part of the learning process Tekim. We've made great strides in the last century. We will continue that trend only it will take less time. More people are studying which equates to more experts working which equates to faster understanding which equates to faster solutions to problems. I have no worry about disposal, that problem will be solved.

I know what your saying... But some how it seems like every "solution" doesn't really stop pollution, but just changes the type of pollution such as exchanging carbon emissions for toxic waste from dead batteries. Look at the CFL bulb everybody is pushing as a great solution, but nobody really discusses that they all contain an extremely potent neurotoxin - mercury. Granted there is only small amount in each bulb but if billions are used then all those little amounts all add up. How many do you think will end up in landfills because people will just chuck them out instead of disposing of them properly? If you break a CFL bulb & mercury gets on your clothes you are advised not to throw them in the washing machine, but to throw them in the garbage as the mercury could contaminate your washing machines & then the rest of your clothes. Im not saying that its not worthwhile to try to be more environmentally friendly but that we should be aware of the other environmental implications the "solutions" create.

As far as "not worrying about disposal", that is the mentality that got us into this situation in the first place.

    Nuclear.

Sorry tekim, I don't follow. We are in this situation because thats how we progressed. Now we know the ramifications and can move forward. If we learn from past mistakes we try to get better. We are as a species always evolving, I don't see that stopping anytime soon. I would prefer R&D go into disposal issues then wasting it on Ethanol. So far, batt technology may provide the "cleanest" alternative going forward. Its easy to implement, easy to manufacture, as far as disposal, i'm sure we can store then for a long while. Maybe manitoba can lead the way.
