A man is dead after being shot with a Taser by police in Winnipeg early Tuesday afternoon.

Police have released few details about the incident, saying only that they received a 911 call around 4 p.m. CT.

When officers arrived at the location of the call, there was some type of confrontation which resulted in one man being stunned with a Taser, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but died later.

Police would not say how old the man was or how much experience the officer involved had.

If there is good news, it is that the police homicide division will be investigating.
I assume that this means some winnipeg police officer will be charged with manslauter, LOL, but I am sure that this "dead guy" may have been trying to steal the parked van, and that he was brandishing a knife against the officers. There were only 5 police cars sent out, so it couldn't have been that important .
If this was the Northend a minimum of 8 cars would have been sent! lol

I still cant believe the police spokesperson whatshername...claimed she had no details about the TaZered man or what crime was reported that had the officers initially respond... yup.. dont believe that line for a minute.. I can picutre it now

Hey Whatshername... come from home and drive over to this crime scene when you get there talk to the media and public..
sure chief.. what am I going there for?
well just this thing... dont worry you know enough.

yup... that seems real likely.

Would the suspect have had a better chance of surviving if he was shot instead? Brandish a knife (or a screwdriver!) towards cops, expect to be killed. That's the pattern I'm seeing.

Posted By: smjpilot Brandish a knife (or a screwdriver!) towards cops, expect to be killed. That's the pattern I'm seeing.
I completely agree with that statement. Drop the knife, no problems.

However, I do have a problem with the taser being used as an alternative to pepper spray...when it really is an alternative to guns.

I also laughed at what I heard on the news this morning.
They were saying that tasers are completely fine if you're perfectly healthy. How many of us are perfectly healthy? How many "bad guys"?

what surprises me is that he died even though the police seemed to have acted quickly in attempts to save him, and the fact he was about 80 feet from health sciences.

Like what the heck? I understand how the polish guy died as the police simply ignored it... but from all accounts the police and ambulance responded PDQ to this guy...

How many more killings before these tasers are comsidered a lethal weapon?
