I have been talking with (someone) on newwinnipeg.com about some of the problems a few of us have been experiencing lately accessing the site. There are a number of us recently who have only been able to access the site using computers other than our own or by the means of an anonymous web proxy.

They said that their technical people are looking into it.

I figured that it might help them figure out what is going on if anyone experiencing connectivity issues would document the issues that you are having which could potentially narrow down the problems for the technical guys to look at.

I personally am not able to access newwinnipeg.com from my computer at home or my computer at work. However at work I change the outgoing NAT address for newwinnipeg.com on my firewall to a different IP address within the same subnet and the site worked fine. All I changed was the IP address and all other hardware stayed the same. At home I don't have the ability to change my IP address as my address is static so I have to use an anonymous web proxy (www.zend2.com) to access newwinnipeg.com.

Here's this for what it's worth...

Whenever I come on here, I always get (open on) page 2 of the closed "Community Forum Change" thread. A few times (3 or 4) I'm not signed in and must do so again.

I'm not bitchn'...just thought it might help or factor in somehow.

Anyone else start off on this page 2 thing?

Please, let's keep the tone civil. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation and solution for this.

Please, be specific when you chastise okay?

I have had a serious problem with threads being closed, getting yelled at about punctuation marks, and the wanton use of capitals.
The last straw was when someone mistook me for J2F, and claimed that I wore a black beret.

I am so depressed over these life threatening , occasions, and now the worst thing , Northender claims that I am generous!

This is out and out slander!! I am thinking of suing!!

    Beware, you are all forewarned!!

Sounds like it might be a problem with your own computer. Try clearing your cache and cookies.
See if that changes anything for you.

I haven't been a moderator on this site for two years. You've been told this several times over the past couple of years. If you really thought I had any control over this site, why haven't you ever private messaged me for help? Seems fishy.

    http://www.newwinnipeg.com/faq.php

"Who is in charge of this website?

    The discussion board's moderators maintain this website;
    (mrchristian, JupiterGal, zander and Vote_For_Pedro)"

It might help if you didn't make so many assumptions and instead asked questions.

I guess I generally do not correlate "moderators" with "site admins". Moderators generally ensure the discussions do not get out of hand and handle other user issues. Site admins generally manage the servers, databases and other technical details.

I just assumed that the moderators here weren't responsible for the technical side of the site.

On April 20th I first discovered my IP address was blocked. The first time I've ever had an IP address blocked! I too contacted alex and was advised that I should contact a moderator. I did, and I'm very grateful to mr.christian for his patience and his continued involvement in trying to rectify the problem. I too must go through an anonymous web proxy to access the site. This is very slow and annoying what with all the ads.

What perplexes me is the fact that both my home and office IP addresses were blocked (are blocked) at the same time. Another conundrum is my both my home and office IP addresses are also blocked at the host (ISP) for newwinnipeg.com.

There are at least two other regulars that have blocked IP addresses that I'm aware of. jim is one of the two.

Yesterday there were a few comments on this very subject that have since been removed. I don't know what the protocol is in this matter, but it does seem odd that posts are removed without comment to the author. I also had another post on a completely unrelated matter removed last night without notice.

I'm a big fan of this site and thoroughly enjoy the many and varied debates (witness my many comments). I also appreciate that I have no rights here and as this is a private site there are no obligations to me at any level. But somehow I don't believe that the folks that moderate and manage this space want to block people like me from participating. And if so a simple ban can be effected. As annoying as I can be I believe I make a contribution. I honestly don't believe most peeps that play here want contributing members blocked or to have their posts edited, or worse censored.

Apparently they have too many comments coming from people over 53 years old, so they have been cutting back , based on the youngest writers not being up to snuff!

As of yesterday, it seems that site "forgets" me each time I close my browser, and I have to sign in again the next time.

I have the same problem, but I can usually get past it by clicking on "Discussions". That seems to log me in for some reason.

Suddenly it is no longer remembering who I am and have to repeatedly log in. Boo hoo.
  8.
It isn't boo hoo, but telling the people at NW some of the things that we are experiencing so it may help them in fixing it.

I only have this problem when using certain browsers. Firefox (and its Debian offshoot "Iceweasel") give me no problems, but the Firefox-offshoot "Seamonkey" does. Weeeeird.

    "Iceweasel".."Seamonkey"..sound like race horses.
