IMHO, the government has a duty to make sure that children born into a cult (that's what they are) aren't raped. Women that allow the kids to be married at 14 are not "mothers", but rather "accomplices".
Why should only one man have more than one wife, and leave all the other men in the "community" with no hope of getting spouses within the area? This whole group is only interested in one thing: sex with young women who are "programmed" from early childhood to believe that this is the "proper way of things".
The authorities should be on track to break the "ring-leaders" of this disgusting group, and incarcerate them for the rest of their (un)natural lives. Out in Bountiful, B.C. there is a community who's residents also follow this same ideology, the leaders are unapologetic in their beliefs. The young ladies are not given the full benefit of a complete education, isolated from the rest of society and "programmed" into becoming baby-makers for the old perverts who run the place. Lock up all the "leaders", or maybe my "devil's island" suggestion for other criminals is an alternative.
There is nothing wrong with having more than 1 spouse, male or female, there is nothing wrong with being together and not being married, there is nothing wrong with 2 males, 2 females, in my opinion! Consenting adults.
The government should keep out of the bedrooms of its citizens, because all they end up doing is bringing their religious beliefs into the discussion, and we know that religion is the cause of all kinds of grief in the world!
Protect the young is fine. Leave the consenting adults alone! Why isn't it against the law to live together , unmarried?? I am sure that is covered in everyone's religion, isn't it?
Mono has a point,the issue in the states has more to do with a "cult" than it has to do with polygamy. When you consider the young age that these girls "marry', it is not a religion, but a matter for child welfare authorities.

No more complications: prosecute the leaders so that their sinful, degrading messages cannot be heard again. Their entire thought process is around having sex with younger females, regardless of bloodlines at all. It's a point of pride for the "men" of the group to father several dozen children, and if the mothers are less than 18 yrs of age, so much the better for their egos. Like any cult, it's mind control, body control, spiritual control: as long as the leaders have that; they're happy, well sexed and content. Let them find contentment in a prison filled with murderers, rapists, thieves. I will NOT wish them luck!

Rosencrentz: no , was never in one of those, I was given the right tools of thought by my folks to be able to avoid that psychotic crowd.
I have read a lot about these cults; amazes me when "intelligent" people are taken in by these "prophets" and fed enough lies that convince them to give up everything to the leaders.

There was this interview on TV news channel 108, mts, and lo and behold , they have this husband and wife and their 4 or 5 kids, and they are "normal" whatever that means, they love their kids, spend a lot of time with their kids, educate them at home, and believe in the right for the husband to have many wives. It is their religion to believe in, and that tells me that all of the publicity about the 460 kids "rescued" from their parents, is a load of American "bull" crap. This interview , the couple were married, she was 17, he was 16. They also left the Church for awhile, and returned. They seem to be well adjusted, loving parents. They do not believe that there is anything "bad"going on anywhere in the community! The more I think about the "government" rescuing 460 kids, the more I think about the Canadian government rescuing the aboriginals, and sending them to schools where they were beaten if they spoke their own language.

When we call them perverts, we are judging them on our religious beliefs! The interview that I saw was one of "the sect" couples, around 35 years old, with 4 happy kids? and "he" had only one wife! Some of the other interviews that I saw, all the women, and they all look alike, and dress alike, were really worried about their children that had been taken away from the family. Our judging the sect based on media reports, based on what "those lying, liars report", really bothers me. The government moving in and removing 460 kids from their parents, really bothers me! I have no faith in Bush's right wing holier than thou attitudes with regard to religion. I have no reason to believe that all 50 year old males from this sect , have been sleeping with 13 year old ,promised to them girls. If that is the case , then the law should be there to protect them, because we believe that, that behaviour is criminal. If their religion says that is right, then there is going to be a hell of a legal battle, because freedom of religion is the rule of law, I think. J2F, this is not a case of a 50 year old pervert. When the law catches a 50 year old pervert with an under 14 yeqr old in Canada , we see that they are usually punished by giving them time served, or weekends at home with the wife. The interviews that I have seen, do not show the women upset at anything, other than their kids are gone, and they are worried about the kids. No concern that there are 10 wives, as that is nothing to be upset about! We are judging them , on our ways. I have enough problems with one Alpha wife, and one Alpha daughter. I have to hide out from them!
Although we live in this world, and profess out Christianity, we are still bound to live according to the laws of our society. "Render unto Caesar what he demands; all else render unto God" Well the laws state that there shall be no polygamy, no multiple wives in any manner. The members of this organization are disobeying the basic law and guidance laid out by the Christ. You want to call it religious freedom? I call it the uncontrollable desire of grown, mature men to make young women pregnant so that they can boast about it to their buddies; it's sick, pure and simple.
