Posted By: ScottTenormanIt's unbelievable that they haven't banned squeegee kids yet.

what do you mean they have not banned them? check the bylaws specifically 1481/77 (see page 10)

    SOLICITING BUSINESS IN A ROADWAY
2.18. No person shall enter a roadway or occupy a roadway for the purpose of offering the
occupant or occupants of vehicles any goods or service, nor shall a person provide any
goods or service in a roadway to the occupant or occupants of vehicles in the roadway,
provided however, that this Section shall not be construed to render it unlawful for a person
to enter a roadway to render assistance where such assistance is deemed necessary due to
    accident or breakdown.

By "public" do you mean a certain, small group that didn't represent the entire population?
  1.
I was thinking the same thing. I wasn't ticked off if they going to throw the squeegee kids off the street, as a matter of fact, I would be quite happy about it as they are a nuisance to traffic and a hazard. Thats not to mention that I really don't think I have to keep telling them "no" when I'm waiting for a light. If I want my windows cleaned, I'll have it done when I want, not just because I'm stuck in traffic.

by public I mean everyone that was pissed that they were "wasting" resources on it.

since they were the only ones speaking up... they represented the "public" at the time.

Posted By: StarblubberI have no problem with squeegee kids, if that's how they want to spend their time to make money then let them. It's not hurting anybody. Chances are if you find it a nuisance or it inconveniences your day so much that you need to post about it then the word uptight complainer pops into my mind. If you tell a squeegee kid "no" though and he goes ahead and washes your window anyways then give him hell just don't sit there like a pacified yuppy and then complain about it afterwards on a messageboard:) "Oh the nerve", haha. Sorry I just found that funny. Give them money or don't give them money, it's as simple as that. No obligations. If they're not hurting anybody who cares.

Not everyone has the confidence to yell at a squeegee kid when they said they didn't want their car touched. Just like not everyone is going to tell an aggressive panhandler to get lost either.

You shouldn't be yelling at strangers in the first place.

Starblubber's point was that some people act passive agressively; they get mad, but don't express themselves and that just leads to bottled up rage.

    Then define "give him hell"...

So to prevent being labelled a "pacified yuppy" I should "give him hell" by not raising my voice?

These guys/gals simply don't bother me. I usually give them change, but when I don't have any or don't want anything to do with them a simple wave of my hand always does the trick.

I understand wanderglobe was just venting, I was just giving him a rough time. I already said I'm a sarcastic wanker:)
After reading a couple of his replies he sounds like a cool enough guy. Consider the yuppy comment retracted and transfered to Sputnik. Mwhaha.

Anybody that traveled across the US in a VW bus filming a documentary and worked on a fishing boat gets 2 thumbs up from me. Are you going to put the documentary online? Next summer I plan on doing something similar, gonna fly to Vancouver, buy a mountain bike and ride back to Winnipeg and film my adventures. Kind of a practice run for Brazil as I plan on biking along the east coast southwards.

Thanks. I am as groovy as all getout. WTF is a sputnik? hehe Some of the vids are online at:

    www.youtube.com/theswatter

Its just some of the shots with music over the top. Updates I put onlnie for the VW community/cult. I will probably offer a torrent online of the doc when it's done and ask people to voluntarily donate to a charity for kids with autism or something along those line. I'm going to put a percentage of all DVD profit towards specific, grass roots charities. When I shoot Mexico it'll be street kids, Belize will be the Cockscomb Basin Jaguar Reserver etc etc. North America is kids with autism. Gotta try to keep the karma jar full...especially when you roll in a 34 year old vehicle.

I'd like to hear about your trip to Brazil and the Van/Winnipeg run. Drop me a line and let's grab a wobbly pop, maybe get all liquored up and beat on some squeegee kids. scott@wanderglobe.com

On Saturday, a friend and I were driving eastbound on Stradbrook. We had to stop at the intersection with Main St due to a red light. There was this intoxicated young native guy that was going from car to car panhandling. When the drivers refused to give him anything, he would either swear at them or flash some kind of hand signal that look like it could be from a gang. this has completely got out of hand. The police need to enforce these by-laws that they implemented. Otherwise, motorists will stay the hell away from the inner city.
