If people choose to sit on their asses drinking and beating on one another why is that my problem?

Really? Wow. I didn't know that. Thank you.

And that's your contribution to a discussion on the status of Canada's aboriginal peoples?

In a sense maybe natives are treated as bad as Tibetans. Maybe not on all the same levels but there are some parallels. Attitude wise I would also agree. The Chinese government has spoon fed the Chinese population propaganda about the Tibetans for years. If anybody has been following news about the Olympics the past month and heard some Chinese officials trashing the Dali Lama and Tibetan buddhists on networks like CBC then that's more than evident, and that's only a small taste we get to see. In Winnipeg there is a lot of racism towards natives, that's a fact. There are those who look down on Natives and treat them as subhumans, or have that perception. I know I've heard my fair share of racist jokes or remarks over the years and the sad thing is there are a lot of people out their that actually have this attitude and believe in that kind of mindset. I find on threads like these majority of the time it's not worth debating and wasting energy on the people who have prejudice in their hearts and minds. Instead sit back and see these people expose their own ignorance. Sometimes it amazes me what people will say publicly.

Much like the way we lump them all as spoiled and greedy yet we have not been in there life for a day let alone a week. Yes there has been waste and coruption sorta like goverment , but there has been good we chose to ignore and see Main St.

If you are looking at it from a modern day perspective it wouldn't be right. However you have to look at it in it's historical context and at that time it would have been considered right. Darwin and his Origins of Man would still be quite fresh in the minds and thinking of the people and it putting the natives on reserves would have fit right with the concept of "survival of the fittest". However, times and things do change and the natives can't go back to the way it was and roam the land as they once did This is true for everyone. How things are done and how people once lived do change. You cant live in the past and long for what could have been and might have been if things were done differently.I t would have been inevitable that Canada would have been colonized by someone. All reserves are not like third world countries by the way. We have friends in NB that live on reserve and the houses there are nicer than my families houses and people are not living in poverty there. So what does that mean? It means to me that some resverse know how to budget their money better.

Yes, but again this still skirts the main issue-- that the majority of Canada's aboriginal people live in poverty. One nice reserve doesn't change that.

That, not who is perceived to whine too much, is what people should be upset about, imo.

It would be interesting to see how many reserves there are and how many are in poverty vs how many are not. I'm sure there are more than one resevre that isn't in poverty.

The truth? That Canada's aboriginal people live in poverty and have higher rates of violence and alcohol abuse?

No, I can handle that. It's a fact. Unlike you, I'm guessing, I've actually worked on the "front lines" of trying to solve some of those problems, rather than simply pointing them out w/ a smug, safely removed self-righteousness.
