I just got back from the UWSA staff and volunteer party and we had a blast! I wanted to pass on this gem of a find. We had the party at the Urban Shaman art gallery in the Exchange district (290 McDermot). It was 100$ for five hours and the guy even let us go over by an hour! They also let us leave our empties for a homeless person to pick up in the morning. So, if you're looking for a different venue for that next party or small social, definitely consider the art galleries around town!

I don't know that they provide services... we just rented the venue!

It has moved. It's at 290 McDermot now, in the same building as Ace Art Inc. and Metamorphosis tattooing.

Hmmm... that depends if you just want standing/dancing space with cocktail tables or actual seating. We had about forty people there and only took up about 1/3 of the space. So maybe 100? Really, though, I'm not a party planner so I don't know how to estimate these things. Maybe take a look next time you're in the Exchange?

Another venue is the penthouse at the Art Gallery. If you buy 500$ worth of catering, the space is free. And this includes the beautiful outdoor area!

Silly question. But does it have a view? What floor is it on?

The gallery does not have a view. It's a totally enclosed space. But there's art!

The penthouse at the WAG does have a nice view along one wall, facing south. I think.

We used the Urban Shaman Gallery for an Improv show last month - great venue, staff member who forgot to open the door for us as she left work early.. not so great.
Eventually we got in and all was well.
Look out for our next W.I.M.P.
    winnipeg improv mega party

I had my wedding reception there. The staff and venue were both top notch. This was 22 years ago though, so I can't vouch for the current staff.

Current staff are also excellent, based on our recent experience there. I would recommend the WAG.
