    Branching from the Lazarenko thread, who do you think is the best City Councillor and why?

    Posted By: rosencrentzYou know what I like about Counselor Bill Clement- he answers all of his own e-mails, and all of his phone calls.
    I may disagree with Clement from time to time, but I agree he's accessible and I think he's the only Councillor who does not have an EA (executive assistant).. he's also the Councillor who spends the least of his Ward Allowance (which $70K/year); returns that money back to the City. From a fiscal point of view and community rep, he's a good chap.

    I'm not sure who my favourite is..

    I doubt he answers ALL his own calls. I agree about the money bit though. He does spend his own money on the girls in his office (mainly his daughters and nieces which might I add he has a smoking hot daughter and niece.)

    We are well represented in Transcona with Russ Wyatt, I don't know if hes the best but he certainly isn't the worst. He seems to be very community minded , and thats what I like.

    I don't hear a lot about the newbies - Leipsic, Browaty etc. I think we know the oldsters so well was that they got lots of coverage back when stations in town had "city hall beats" and actually covered things in depth. Now it's just Kives and Romanuk for the papers, CBC Radio kept bouncing around after Julie Bell left, CKY has nobody, CBC has nobody and the CJOB person covers council PLUS chasing the police stuff down. Hard to get a sense from them when you don't hear about them.

    Clement has never responded to any of the e-mails I have sent him since I've e-mailed him on issues, and that was since City Hall got e-mail in the the mid- to late- 90s. Maybe you have to put some $ in to their campaigns in order for them to respond or something. I don't know.

    I was hesitant to say anything here, because I have a handful of friends who don't like him.. but I like him; very approachable. I know few Councillors willing to give me their cell phone #.. but maybe for good reason. :P haha

    What I think is if you don't hear from them then no news is good news. I know of 2 or 3 that are often on the nightly newscasts and its never all good. Out and about shooting the bull at the Transcona barbershop or the local coffeeshop you never hear anyone talking about our councillor, griping like hell about everything else though.

    Browaty has been great using Facebook... that's all I know of him.

    Under the type of coverage city hall gets now you're correct. Without reporters there than know what's going, the personalities involved and the history of issues reporters will just find someone, anyone willing to say something whther they know anything about it or not.
