Actually was on a BIZ board for a number of years, so no, not NDP :)

As for details, more policy detail than organizational detail is what I was referring to - I certainly haven't worked with her as closely. I think your comments on what a councilor should do are well said.

2500 not sure?? not a lot really stuff like safeway and gas and such

Dean, I think you may have made a typo: "he used his city credit card for personal expenses.. when it was point out to him he paid it off and (delete-never) did it again." It was not a lot of money but it reflected poorly on his character. Only after it was repeated did it cost him all credibility.

Whats the difference. Paying one of your relatives as an assistant, renting an office from a close associate or relative, paying for internet access at home, racking up humongous telecom bills, paying for a lease on your vehicle, gas, insurance, food .....seems like the media had it in for him.

    Nice signs though.

Have to laugh when you see an article like this. What came first, the article idea in Kives' head or this thread? :)

And complaints against Clement have to change, because he's putting his money to some good use IMO.

Despite his overall thriftiness, Clement did manage to outspend every other city councillor on ward activities, a form of discretionary spending on community organizations and non-profit groups.

In 2007, Clement spent $21,445.81 on Charleswood-Tuxedo ward activities such as a community club Zamboni motor and a new computer for the Charleswood Legion.

A new computer for the Legion? Anyone else think this is nothing more than vote buying?

Okay, that one not so much. But the community centre spending was nice.

rosencrentz - perhaps you could hit up Laz for money for Ralph Brown from his discretionary account?

as to Chris Hurley getting paid so much more then other Assistants.. well the dude has been working for one hell of a long time. I would suspect that yearly raises if not raises every time his councillor gets back in.

Not that I am defending Chris himself or his councillor but really.. you cant expect much different.
  3.
And you have to pay for quality...

edit: no clue if this chap is high quality kinda assistance, just a great big leap of faith.

Either you don't read posts or you choose to ignore them. If Clement did outspend every other councillor, I would say the 70K allowance per year just doesn't work.

There is no reason one penny of this allowance should be returned to the City. It should be spent in the community, and if you can't spend it, then donated to other community's who may need it more.

But, of course, its up to you to get informed.

Zamboni motor huh, wonder who got that.
  4.
Wow Mike Pag...you must have had alot of really really important community issues to deal with.

Point Douglas Coun. Mike Pagtakhan, meanwhile, racked up the highest phone bill -- $8,216.87, much of that long-distance from the Philippines

What a fcking joke.Mikey, you should try Skype, only costs 150 a year and long distance is zero.

yeah thats one of the complaints with him... outrageous phone bill.

still ...he has turned into a fairly decent councillor this second term

Its about time the public gets a feel for how much these guys really spend on themselves. I know a few eyebrows were raised last election when BC's spending was shown, in fact, even a defence by same. Still all in all, wasted money which could benefit more people.

    LOL Indeed.

    I like Swandel's comments:

On paper, St. Norbert Coun. Justin Swandel cited the biggest auto allowance, driving enough kilometres to claim slightly more than $12,400. But the councillor claims he's the victim of a clerical error and thousands will be taken off that tally before the final spending report is tabulated next month.

"I noticed that $12,000 right away and it's a mistake. There was an extra parking pass charged to me," he said.

That guy cracks me up.. lol

how much does parking cost? $500 per month?

I have contacted Bill Clement on a number of occasions. He's called me back or emailed me back personally every time. I think he's doing a great job. I contacted him about the sidewalk out front of our place, the Charleswood dog park and another reason I can't recall.

Lillian Thomas (typed with a straight face). There have been times where I've wondered how she keeps getting elected. I've met some of my neighbours, and they aren't all idiots.

<p>I once tried contacting her regarding an issue in my neighbourhood, and never had my call returned. After repeated attempts to reach her, I mailed a letter and CC'd it to the Mayor (Sam Katz). Within 2 days I received a call from Mr. Katz. He told me that he understood my concerns, and would speak to my councillor and have her give me a call. To this day, I've never spoken to her.

One day, she will be gone, and then hopefully this area will be so much better than it is now.
