Posted By: slowdive101One thing we haven't had here for a while is a huge stadium show. I believe U2 was the last one...about ten years ago. There were a ton in the 90s--The Stones twice, Pink Floyd, McCartney, and U2, but nothing since. Does this reflect a change in concert trends (ie, bands choosing smaller venues), or are stadium acts skipping over the city?

Huge rock stadium tours are a rare bird these days, at least compared to 15 years ago. Bands seem to prefer smaller venues.

those concerts were all so epic! U2 had the largest TV screen in the world for their Pop Mart tour.

Who saw New Model Army and how was it?

Any take in the Cult show?

I stayed in to catch up on sleep...

NMA was great. First off, it started at a decent hour for a bar show (the headliners went on shortly after 11 and played about 90 minutes including encore). They started off with "Here Comes the War" and then launched into a lot of newer material, a lot of which was not familiar to me. Justin Sullivan commented that those who came "for a nostalgia show" would be treated later on. They covered a lot of classic material including 225, The Hunt, Vagabonds, Get Me Out, Poison Street, Stupid Questions, Fate, and in the encore they did 51st State and Green & Grey.

it took the band a while to get really rocking but once they did they kept it up most of the set. The sound was not ideal (it's the Albert, after all) but after waiting a long time to see a band like that you can forgive a little more. The average age in the place was 35 or 40.

I am heading to Kenny Shields this evening...I managed to get 2 free tickets so what the hell. I haven't seen Kenny since the early 90's. I hope he still sounds good.

5 years ago or so, I was working at the carnival and when we were in Saskatoon our booth was right near this stage where Prism with Kenny Shields played the exact same set like 3-4 times a day to a crowd of 10+ passerbys and they would always start things off with the keyboard intro to -

    Spaceship Superstar

Every night is a different flight to a different galaxy
Do a sold-out show, then I hit the road in my starship limousine

Get so damned tired and uninspired doin' all these one night stands
It's a giant leap for Rock'n'Roll...but it's too much for just one man

(And I would always have this in my head with the high pitched yelp and the bassist saying the low tone laser beam part. ->)

I'm a Spaceship Superstar... gotta solar-powered laser beam guitar
I'm at the top of all the charts on Mars...I'm a Spaceship Superstar!

Thx for the link Zwikster..... bringing back a lot of memories of good old canadian classic rock. I think Kenny Shields sang with Streetheart though, not Prism. That was Ron Tabak in the vid - he died in some sort of accident in the 80's. Great pipes.

You are right. Kenny Shields was lead singer for Streetheart NOT Prism.

The Def Leppard show this coming Wed. has been postponed.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 11, 2008

    SHOW POSTPONEMENT -- DEF LEPPARD
    With special guest – STYX

    Wednesday April 16, 2008
    MTS Centre - Winnipeg, Manitoba

Due to illness, the Def Leppard Show at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg has now been postponed. The previously scheduled date of Wednesday April 16, 2008 will now be rescheduled. Please retain your tickets, as all tickets will be honoured for the newly scheduled date TBD.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

    UPDATE:

In an interview with DEF LEPPARD guitarist Phil Collen regarding the band's Canadian show cancellations he stated...

Says Collen: "Joe (Elliott - vocals) and I came down with a virus - they thought it was pneumonia, but it's not. But we both have lost our voices and there was just no way to do the shows. We are currently holed up in Quebec City."

Collen also added that drummer Rick Allen threw out his back today and he's also laid up.

Collen expects the band to make up the postponed dates in August

hmmm, I thought Kenny replaced the singer to play in Prism, im probably wrong. The new guy really wailed too. They would rock. I had the song stuck in my head for weeks.

Anybody try to get tickets to the Islands show at The West End?

Tickets are unavailable, but there's no notification that the concert is sold out. Does Ticketmaster usually indicate if an event is sold out?
