I would say the City heritage guys have a duty so save that facade. there is no reason it can't be peeled off stone by stone. Its fcking ridiculous to trash it. Well i think I'll take a drive down ....3 storeys up you say....hmm, could be a challenge.
They could at least look at the fricking thing first !! How would they know it's there, not there and if it's worth saving if they won't even go look. I emailed my info, including the false front stuff to Historic Buildings of the city.
You know thats truly very sad that the city couldn't give a rats patootie. These early theatres is what made the city what it was, famous Vaudeville acts passed through our town, and more then likely a few of them performed at the Starland. This is what you had for entertainment and I'm sure the theatres were pretty much full nightly. Now it looks like they're letting this go with a "meh who cares". I'm totally guilty of being a nostalgia nut, I want to keep things as they were at all costs, but that isn't realistic I know. Anyhow A Starland brick rests in my garden and I hope I can get a Regent brick to put next to the Starland brick........oh and I'll have to leave a gap between my garden bricks, just as it was on Main Street.
ALl I can say is that Coat of Arms needs to come down as one piece. Plaster all over. Got some knick knacks, at least found a side of a set with the S on it in the basement. There are still some interesting pieces that could be salvaged. not sure how long heritage Winnipeg has been around or how much Gus makes, but they had ample time to diassemble. I would have to say Heritage Winnipeg is a waste of money judging by this building.
They will have a hard time with the facade. it looks like a job that requires patience, judging from the inside, its pretty well wrapped up in a few alterations over the years. But who knows, they may get lucking and it peels away, then hopefully Gus and his crew change their minds and salvage it.
its a stuco finish and theres steel rods holding it together... also this one is going to have some nice big colaps's i hope i don't miss them due to being in school :'( all day why can't they do this on a saturday FFS
Hmmm...well then it may come down nicely. Lets just say, if it does and the City or some historical society doesn't step in , then the City should close up the department .
they built a adition in the cuby and hacked the old facade to do this parts of it are compltly gone literaly did you see what i uncoverd?

Pizza, the place is a dump, make no mistake about it. Saving the building is pointless. But, the features, and there arn't many , I counted about a dozen or so, could be saved.
Ok let me get this straight, which building was i in. Mr. point the picture of the cubby hole is from which. The chairs had an S on them. You guys seem to be describing the REX.

Posted By: MR_Pointi've been calling the rex the epic its had many name changes not sure why epic stuc with me other then its an epic gem that was left to rot

Epic perhaps... but not much more epic than vaudeville acts.
We cry about a building but realize that the culture that was responsible for keeping the building viable died off decades ago.
it coulda been saved... someone had tryed but alchalysm killed that project and the city got stuc with it i am told... and thus it roted and people forgot wat was inside it and so it roted away :'( the city could of at least f**king put a new roof on it though :'( and depogeoned it and such :(
people got all up in arms over the gate f**k and yet we let a whole strip of downtown rot... not just any strip but the origonal strip
