I just started re-listening to Joan Armatrading about 2 weeks ago. I can't wait to see her perform live.

Apostle of Hustle is really the only name on that list that has me interested. Im still going regardless though, Folk Fest is the best time of the summer, I love the camping there, being drunk for four days straight.

Of course not. Its the folk music festival, not the pop music festival!
  2.
You've never heard of Joan Armatrading? Al Simmons? The Weakerthans? Actually those are the only three I've heard of as well... Mostly though because that's not my scene man...

That's the best thing about FolkFest - it brings together music from all sorts of "scenes".

Personally, I'm looking forward to Calexico, Hayden, Michael Franti and Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter. But the most fun is in seeing performers you've never heard of before.

Personally, I think the most fun is watching the sun rise for four consecutive days on popes hill. But seeing new bands is pretty great too I suppose.

After four straight days of drinking do you see any sunrises?

One of the things I like most about Folk Fest is finding out about so many new bands every year.
I've listened to about 50% of the bands that will be there so far. This is my list of bands I'm looking forward to the most:

-Seun Kuti and Egypt 80
-Michael Franti & Spearhead
-Washboard Hank
-Balkan Beat Box
-Geoff Berner
-The Fugitives
-Martha Scanlan
-Little Freddie King
-Old Man Luedecke
-Harry Manx
-Calexico
-Carrie Rodriguez
-David Francey

Considering what many people end up being on during those four days to go with the drinks, I think they may be permanently seeing sunrises for the weekend.

the glow lights at Popes hill last year was insane. there were as many people with glow sticks as there were stars. A guy I know, made a UFO ship shaped costume and put glow sticks all around it. pretty funny.

yeah, Apostle is really good too

two years ago there was a bunch of people with one of those big chinese dragon things made entirely from glow sticks. it looked amazing at night.

and grumpy old man, four days of straight drinking till sunrise is more than do-able. its the fifth day that hurts a bit.

That is pretty much the reason I stopped going to Folk Fest.

Too many people just looking for an excuse to party all night long who couldnt care less about the music.

last year my girlfriend and I tried sleeping outside of our tent. The mosquitos were biting the only exposed piece of skin...our EYEBALLS!

I wish the city stuck with the dragonfly solution. I heard that year the vampires were not an issue.

other than the mosquitos, my first folk fest last year was an amazing experience. Listening to Dya Singh one peacefull morning under a tree with the moon visible in the daytime sky was most memorable.

I saw the UFO guy, that was pretty cool. How long did it take your friend to make that?

I'm really excited that Calexico is coming this year. Overall, though, it's not the greatest lineup.
  8.
Maybe the lineup improves as the event draws nearer?

I care about the music just as much as anyone else there. I just also like having a good time and meeting lots of new people, and Folk Fest is great for that. Im sorry you cant handle it.
