Interesting.

Where is that being reported? Nothing new on Google News.

heh heh...ya. The CBC has probably spent $1M on their coverage of this "story".

I wonder if they've got a department dedicated to looking for scum-bags in foreign prisons to cry about.

No, CBC hasn't done 1/4 of what CTV did. She's been their pet project with weekly calls to the National etc. They did a huge bolus of coverage but not a lot of investigation into the story - I think they assumed they would be her media champion and reap the "exclusive interview with Lloyd Robertson" ratings Guess they'll drop her now.
4.
CTV doesn't use tax dollars to cover dumb stories.

"Martin was found guilty and sentenced to 5 years."

double time for pretrial custody?
6.
Well, I guess this decision puts a bit of a new spin to the story. Good thing the Mexican government didn't release someonw who was guilty of a crime.

Remind me, if I'm ever in jail, held awaiting trial, DON'T SEND PAUL MARTIN TO VISIT ME. I'll just take my chances.

yeah I dont really see how the "independent" justice could find her not guilty at this point...frick as a Canadian who might one day go to Mexico I would be a wee bit more scared to walk the streets letting people know I was Canadian if someone got off or was percieved too, just because of her Country of origin.

And she does not want to fight it.. instead she wants to serve in Canada? Should we allow that?

Well, she had her day in court which is what she was protesting about. She's no longer the "Canadian who spent 2 years in jail awaiting trial".

If the whole medical thing is true and she is suffering physically and mentally to the extent that her family claims (which would have to be verified by a doctor that they would turn away at the hosptial door and then compalin no doctor has been there to see them).... Anyhoo, for my two cents I'd support a claim for her to come back on compassionate grounds. She's single, her family is here, medical issues, non-violent crime, first offendce (I presume) she'd need a relatively inexpensive low level security institution.

If she were willing to sign a document saying she wont try to get out before her 5 years are up.. unless a mexican judge allows it...that would be cool I guess.

Mr C is right, she should be allowed to return to Canada as a convicted criminal and do her time her, as that is apparently a common practice.

When she's released, she could get a job with the Liberal Party in their fundraising department. I bet she could show them a few new ideas.

Should we be paying for her to be jailed here in Canada? I'm not so compassionate as some...(I believe that OJ was guilty too btw) and think that Martin is just a munipulative "user" (so was her former boss) that has conned the media into believing her story. That, imho, is no coincidence and seems to be overlooked in the story.
