    Speaking of Impark....

I noticed that Safeway on River Avenue has hired Impark to Police their lot. There were 5 guys there yesterday and they were handing out tickets and towing cars if you weren't a customer of their's, Hakim or Starbucks.

The Parking Wars of Osborne Village rear their heads again eh.

Life is getting so oppressive Jimmy. Its a police state
  4.
How does impark determine who is and who is not a customer?

They watch you get out of your vehicle and watch where you go. (heaven forbid you go to one of the other stores and then to safeway)

Just like they always have at that safeway, only before it was not Impark doing it.

Wow, Impark eh - the war escalates. It used to be mere OBO guys, but now they're bringing out the big guns.

Safeway has the only really big lot in the area so it's no surprise that a lot of people going elsewhere will try to use it.

Such a lot so near many downtowns would not be so accessible. If a few tickets cure the illegal parkers and leave room for real customers it's not such a bad thing...

Yeah...it's hard to argue...it's a free lot in an area with high demand, so they have to be aggressive. Fact is if I couldn't pull into a convenient spot at that Safeway when I'm driving, I'd probably pass it by in favour of someplace else.

    exactly their point.

Impark has a system set up to monitor and ticket / tow cars. OBO still provides security for the store itself.

I guess Safeway has finally got the message from and for their customers. At times, the lot would be full, while only a dozen shoppers were in Safeway.

In the early morning, one can see all the people from the retail stores in the area parking their own cars on the Safeway lot and going to Starbuck's for a coffee then on to work. The side streets have limited parking and Safeway didn't.

I wonder what impact this will have on the area. Parking is a big issue imo.

Since we're going on a bit of a tangent, I've started a new thread specifically for Osborne Village:
