    That's from your experience JTF?

A cyclist may not be riding properly, but I think the only way it would really hit a car is if the car was parked.

I was told to talk to another cop in a week. Called back...he was on holidays.

What respect I've had for the cops has evaporated completely.

It absolutely amazes me the lack of courtesy and respect out there on the roads, not to mention the total disregard (of some, NOT all ) drivers for the basic rules set out by the current bylaws. Courtesy, good manners, respect will NEVER go out of style, and I practice what I preach, people.

Obey the laws, be courteous, so what if you are a few minutes late for the doctor appointment, haven't they kept you waiting in the front office often enough? Letting someone else have the opportunity to go first won't kill you, although some of you may prefer to perish in hellfire rather than let another driver cut in the line ahead of you.

Get a grip people, have some basic sense, learn how to properly schedule your time; then you won't HAVE to disobey the stop signs, speed limits, and other traffic control devices. Perhaps we'll have a more "civilized" city to live in eh?

it doesnt seem too courteous to be running to the police to tell on every regular human being that doesnt drive like a blind grandma.

Monominto, I suspect you are a more significant part of the problem then you're willing to acknowledge and admit. I bet you drive the exact posted speed no matter the traffic flow. It is your mission to teach us bad drivers what is right. I'm thinking if you just get out of the way and let folks pass you you'll probably have fewer people trying to run you off the road.

There is right Monominto and there is right. I think a lot of the problems you encounter are created by... you.

This post reminded me of a recent study done in Japan regarding traffic flow.

Coles notes. Traffic gridlock happens because human are incapable of maintaining a constant rate of speed.

I'm not sure how an admonishment to be courteous on the road creates problems.

    Care to explain?

My admonishment to be courteous won't create any problems, it will solve almost all of them. Remember the "Golden Rule"?

Take a look at it another way..... if you drive like a maniac, cut people off like a crazed Indy driver, shout and scream every time someone is going slower than you, you deserve to be made late simply because of your attitudes.

I'm planning on keeping my driver's license for a long time, at full merits. Trust me people, my stress levels are WAY down.

How can we deny that drivers are becoming more stupid?

Let's see, in five days two drivers have ran into the Mooshiro sushi place on Portage.
    Someone hits a city worker.
Now someone drives into a tire shop.

"The elderly driver stopped his vehicle in front of the Warman Road Fountain Tire outlet, but before he put the car in park, his foot slipped from the brake to the gas pedal and he drove through the wall"

Another accident up there on Main Street by someone who not only was in a "rush" to get home, but was intoxicated besides? When are people going to get the message that you MUST obey the laws!!

Dang! it seems that common sense is getting rarer!

    Obey the laws. Interesting concept.
I have the max merits on my licsense that i can get. I drive by the book. I have been a passenger in vehicles with drivers like you (Monominto) and "the other kind of drivers".

Funny thing is the other kind of drivers seem to complain about being late, speeding tickets and one finger waves by other drivers.

Now on the other hand, driving by the book I am rarely late(damn alarm clock), can't brag about getting any tickets (ok got one parking ticket infront of a lawyers office cause the meter ran out), great fuel savings, and I frequently get thank you waves or flashes from other drivers for being courteous.

Strange how that works. Follow the law and get respect from most drivers.

At least one twenty year old driver needs to follow that advice.
    From CJOB:
"Three people have been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle collision east of Winnipeg.

RCMP say it happened at the intersection of Highways One and 207 at around 6:30 Sunday evening. A blue Cavalier heading north on 207 crossed the Trans-Canada and was T-boned by a westbound Honda Civic.

A male passenger from the Civic has been taken to the Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries. The 43-year-old driver of the Civic is a man from Steinbach. He was taken to Ste. Anne hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The same goes for the 20-year-old man from Lorette who was driving the Cavalier. Charges are pending against the young driver.
RCMP say alcohol was not a factor."

    I watched this crash happen.

The news story doesn't really give as good a picture of the destruction caused when the cavalier hit the Civic. The Cavalier that crossed the highway did so at 100+ km an hour and was clearly accelerating in order to miss the traffic. The Cavalier hit the civic and flew up into the air and crashed into the ditch. The civic also ended up in the ditch coming to a stop in a total of 40 feet.

I stopped and went to the cars to find the civic on fire (small under hood oil fire, put out by semi driver) The kid in the civic was hanging out of the passenger window, bleeding form head wounds caused when he smashed out the window. No seatbelts.

Civic passenger out cold, bleeding. I suspect he hit the stop sign post. Driver moaning in pain from multiple injuries including a broken leg.
It took 15 -18 min for emergency services to arrive, which is pretty good considering the were volenteer fire fighters from some distance away. Ambulances arrived moments later. RCMP another ten minutes.

I have to say I was very impressed with the emergency people. Very efficient, clearly well trained and very calm. One thing of note here, calling for help in a rural area is sometimes difficult because callers often don't know their exact location. In this case the "trans Canada and 207" oddly describes two possible locations. I pointed to a municipal road number to assist one caller.

Overall a shocking end to my day. I'm still surprised no one was killed.

GOG, that's Deacons Corner if I'm not mistaken and its a controlled intersection, so is it safe to assume that someone ran the light?

Did the civic hit the cavalier or the other way around? The news report and your eye witness testimony seem to contradict each other. Did the newsies get it wrong?

No it's not Deacons corner. 207 crosses the TCH there but then swings through Lorette and back to the highway at Dufresne, where the crash happened. Hence the difficulty in pinpointing the location.

Well, by any measure the Cavalier did the hitting. When you describe a t bone crash the tendency is to say the car that hit the side of the other is the T boner. The two cars hit corner to corner (right front of Cavalier to left front civic. They then basically folded into to one another doing severe damage to the sides of both cars. All the people had to extracted by the use of the jaws of life. The passenger side of the Civic was smashed by hitting the stop sign post. It was a real mess and completely unnecessary. The kid driving the Cavalier deliberately ran the stop sign as fast as he could in order to go between the passing traffic. He failed to do so.
