But if the police car is speeding, wouldn't you have to speed in order to catch up and pull them over? How does that work?

I reported a speeding RCMP car a couple of years ago. I was passed by a car doing about 140. Cop saw him from the other side of the Trans Canada and did a u turn and passed me at about 180 eventually reaching about 200Km/hour (based on him covering 2 miles to my 1 @100)

I wasn't upset about the speed itself, more the fact that it was 9pm and he was heading east with the setting sun behind him. Without any lights on the car, no headlights, no emergency lights!

I want to the Steinbach detachment to register my complaint with the staff Sargent. He said he was the area Sgt not the highway patrol boss and went on to tell me how they were trying to work with the community and then one of the highway "cowboys" (his word) pulls a stunt like this. He told me the highway patrol sargent would get in touch with me.

Got a call the next day from the right S Sgt. I explained what had happened and he thought I was complaining about the speed of the car. I wasn't directly, (though having driven a cop car at speed I can only describe those Crown Vics as wretched and it was part of my concern)

Once I got it across to him about the no lights problem (he was having trouble even visualizing the lack of emergency lights at dusk) He said they were having a staff meeting the next day and he would "certainly" be dealing with the driver in question. I felt he was sincere in his statement that he would deal with the offender.

GOG, that was the smart thing to do. Good to hear an encounter with a positive outcome.

My comment was to a post that suggested pulling the offending police car over and effecting a citizens arrest.

Citizens arrest only applies to criminal code felonies I believe. Traffic act is only regulations.

If somebody is driving fast enough, it could be considered imprudent driving -- a criminal code offence. But again, how do you catch them without speeding yourself?

About all you can do is take down the license number, where the offence occurred, when it occurred and TRY to get a description of the driver.
Then you can call it in, but the best, in my experience, is to go into the local police station and make the complaint in person.

On a more personal note, this being Friday the 28th of March, 2008.
This morning I was riding in my dad's vehicle, he was driving, along Greenland Road west of Hwy 12; as we were passing through the community of Greenland AT the posted limit of 60 kmh, a van traveling north on Municipal road 32 drove right through a STOP sign at the corner immediately next to the local church. Directly in front of the vehicle we were in!! We stopped and chewed tail feathers off the driver who had pulled into the Church property, and he apologized, but I still took down his plate number, and all the other details.
Here is the issue; if my dad had made contact with that vehicle with his vehicle, NOT his fault at all, but the other driver's fault completely, because of my father's age: he would have lost his driver's license.
    NOT FAIR!! and not right!
After I calm down a bit more, I will be making the trip to the local detachment to make a formal complaint!
It's not only speeding that gets me, it's the dipstick drivers who have tunnel vision and don't STOP to take a good look!!

I am not sure I believe that. Doesn't make any sense. If you're going to take away somebody's license for not being at fault, might as well just take everyone's license away once they hit 75 or 80.

I would not be opposed to requiring a driving test at a certain age though.

On that point I agree with you.

I've seen that happen, cherenkov, there was a 70 yr old driver who was sitting at a stop sign in Steinbach, was hit from behind by another driver in a pick-up: they took away the license of the 70 yr old.

There was a major dust-up over that one, said that the driver of the pick-up should have been tested to see if his eyes were working.

Yesterday, April 1, I was in Winnipeg looking for work, (STILL) everywhere I went, I did the posted limits, and was passed like I was up on blocks.

Why is everybody in such a rush to get ahead of everyone else? Even when I was working in Wpg a few years ago, I drove the limits, never went faster than the limits and always got to where I wanted to in plenty of time.

Perhaps better time management practices? I'm not sure, I do know that the only people I pass regularly are those on bicycles.

Once again, in Winnipeg, April 11, drove around the city like a normal, sane driver, came up to a stop sign, looked both ways to ensure that it was safe: it wasn't, next thing I know I'm being shoved into Selkirk Avenue by the idiot behind me. I tossed my Blazer into park, called the police on the cell phone, but I didn't NEED to, the police were in a ghost car right behind the dip who was pushing me forward.
Needless to say, that unworthy fellow was in a huge rush to get somewhere, and spent last night cooling his heels down at the Remand Center.
He is trying to put the blame on me for making him angry enough to push me! Fortunately I also had 3 people in my Blazer who are my witnesses. This dip doesn't have a chance in court!
On Thursday, my dad was on his way down to Steinbach and witnessed a vehicle driving straight through the stop sign at Hwy 12 and PTH 501; he blew his horn at them, then yelled at them to OBEY THE TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE!!

That's weird. It's not uncommon to blow right around someone who is dragging their ass on a residential street, but bumping into someone...that's totally different.

Cancelbot, it's one thing to be dragging your butt down the street, but taking proper precautions at a stop sign to ensure your own safety is NOT obstructing traffic!! It's called responsible driving habits!

The fact that the dip bumped me into the oncoming traffic what was got him time in the jail house anyways, no damage to my vehicle, but my hitch put an impressive dent in his grill: he can't do anything about that because it's a perfectly legal installation.

What would you say about someone who "blew past" your car while you are stopped at a Traffic Control Device, namely the stop sign; only to see that person get T-boned by a vehicle that had the right of way?

HMMM you'd probably call the driver an idiot, right?

That is indeed messed up. Does this guy not understand the term "hit and run"?

So far we've a tally of 3 bike accidents. Any more sightings?

There seems to be a problem with the cops in this regard. Did you hit the car, or, did the car hit you?
