How? It's not going to be any different once you get off the highway in any other city.

Traffic engineers maintain that speed limits should be established according to the 85th percentile of free flowing traffic. ... Numerous studies have shown that the 85th percentile is the safest possible level at which to set a speed limit.

I have read that too, but still there are many cases were the speed limit is set to 10-15 km/hr lower than the natural flow of traffic (eg. parts of Kenaston). Driving the speed limit may actually be more dangerous than speeding.

***Edited by mod**** Speeding is just plain stupid, ok?
Example; you drive from home to work and average 10% over the limits, and you save on a 30 minute drive AT the limit a total of 3 minutes. What do you accomplish with that extra 3 minutes? Have another coffee? Make excuses to the people you ran off the road? Explain to the police WHY you are exceeding the limits? (which is why you are late for work that morning). Tell another lie to your co-workers?
Get real ok? Obey the law; no tickets, less stress, and no need to explain yourself to a judge.

Like I said before, I drive an appropriate speed for the situation. Sometimes that's at or below the speed limit, sometimes it's above. I haven't been stopped by a cop in years (that incident on Plessis, which was a speed trap). I am generally law-abiding, but I have a problem with laws that are counter-productive or not consistent with the original objective of the law.

You can be a lemming and do whatever you are told all the time. That's fine with me. I prefer to use my judgement. It's a matter of principle and a personal choice.

Please try to keep it civil. Disagree all you like, but please refrain from name calling and so on.

Perhaps Monominto you've not yet read this: Terms of Service sticky. Or perhaps you've not comprehended its meaning? I can help you with that if you like...

Do you have a Road Rage when you see someone speeding?

I speed all the time 115 in a 100 and I'm pretty sure that speed on the Trans Canada is the 85th percentile. It's safe and reasonable (weather permitting). Over the twenty years I've been making the commute i must have saved days worth of time on the road.

I don't mind if you want to drive 100 even if you're holding up traffic. (Right lane only please)

OK then all of you, take your chances, get that ticket, run off the road, get charged with imprudent driving, have your accident: I truly hope I'm there to render first aid assistance to you. Alright?

I hope you like wasting your time, sitting in your car waiting for that ticket to be written up, laying in a hospital bed, behind bars at the local police station, sitting in the courtroom waiting for the judge to give you a fine for being a twit.

Obedience of the law is NOT optional, and does come with consequences.

    You have been sufficiently warned.

Duntinr? I LEARNED to drive in Montreal, I drove the speed limits because I was taught to obey the law by my father, who has NEVER had a speeding ticket in his life! I obey my conscience when I give way to another driver because I believe in being courteous. At the end of the day, my stress level is nice and low, simply because I don't get road rage: someone is speeding? I say: "see you at your early grave, meathead" and you can ask my daughter about that, she's heard me.

People who use the excuse: "I'm driving with the flow" have zero excuses, just because 5,000 other people are breaking the law does not mean it's ok to break that law.

And for your info, I'm 51, male, 4 children and more common sense than the pack of you. No speeding tickets since 1979, when I was "following the flow of traffic". So there.
