Driver8, I agree with you massively, we need to train TERRIFIC drivers who obey the laws, as I trained my offspring to drive!
They may be adults now, but they still fear my critique of their driving habits. Even now they ask me how to handle certain situations, and I offer my advice. HOWEVER, some of those situations involve drivers who are older, not necessarily wiser, and they are hesitant to approach the other motorist. I, on the other hand, have enough gray hair and experience to tell someone off who has been ignorant and rude; and have done so several times. When it comes to safety, courtesy, and obedience to the letter of the Highway Traffic Act; I take no prisoners!
Good thing we're not living in the States eh? They settle their issues down there with open gunfire! Was in town today, May 10, to help deliver flowers, so I was all over town. After finishing was cut off on Grant Avenue by a 20-something white fellow who drove up on my right side to pass, even after I'd been signaling for 5 seconds to change lanes. Got his plate number, and will be turning him in for not only that, but going through a red light, driving erratically, speeding and this time, I have two other witnesses in the vehicle with me!
So NO, I do not lie about this, and in fact it was one of the passengers who asked me to call this irresponsible driver in to the police.
I rather believe that he will get a ticket for imprudent driving, driving through a red light, and speeding at 70 kms in a 50 km zone. I lost him just before the MB Hydro building on Taylor. At the very least, he'll get a written warning, and be told to behave himself, like that will do much good, I know!

The police may write a letter. Nothing more.
Monominto, allowing someone to change lanes in front of you is mere common courtesy. No one HAS to let you in because you turn on your signal. The fellow may not have seen your signal. By his not allowing you in is this "cutting you off"?
Grumpy, the driver came up from BEHIND and cut me off by rushing up beside me. Obviously you didn't remember that I had 2 others in my vehicle with me. They have already made written statements and are going to make personal reports as well.
Oh, I get mad, that's only human. But I redirect my rage into something constructive, by reporting the twits to the police. Haven't you been reading my previous posts? You and I, as well as everyone else has not only the right, but the obligation to report dangerous drivers to the police, so that there is the potential of their removal from the roads. Quite a few years ago, I was cut off on Hwy #1 east just east of Symington Yards. I got the license plate, basic identity of the driver, then as they changed lanes 10 times in less than a mile, and sped up, slowed down, just about went into the ditch and cut off two other drivers; I figured that these two had to get off the road. So I reported them to the RCMP and by photo, identified the driver; as it turned out, the car was NOT properly licensed, the driver had no permit, no insurance on the vehicle at all, and it was stolen.
Did I do the right thing? Grumpy? Dustinr? That driver got 2 yrs less a day for his stupidity. Made me feel good! Got him off the road before he killed someone, namely ME!
Mono, I think what Dustin is telling you you're fortunate someone hasn't vented on you yet, not the other way around. You do this to the wrong driver and you might have bitten off more then you can chew.
Let them come to me through the court system, Eastsider. I'm not doing anything wrong, at all, by reporting a driver who is breaking the Highway Traffic Act.
I'm looking myself in the mirror each morning, and liking what I see: A reasonably human, law-abiding citizen of Canada.
Monominto, you had your signal on for 5 seconds prior to changing lanes, but hadn't moved over yet, right? So obviously the driver behind you assumed you had left your blinker on since the last turn. Customarily, Winnipeggers will only activate their turn signal as they change lanes (if at all). /sarcasm
I'm old, so I'm allowed to leave my signal light on without repurcussions...matter of fact, I understand that it's compulsory after 60...just to reinforce the sterotype eh.
